Near-Shore POF Shrink Film
Sourcing from Turkey
Long-distance POF shrink film imports lock working capital in 60-90 day transit, expose orders to currency drift between PO and arrival, and stall packing lines waiting on customs. MGS breaks the cycle.

The Real Cost of Long-Distance Import Dependence
Distributors sourcing POF shrink film from long-haul origins have lived in the same loop for years: 60-90 day transit windows, capital locked aboard a container at sea, packing lines waiting on film stuck in customs, exchange rates drifting between purchase order and delivery.
Unit price looks attractive on paper. Total cost of ownership tells a different story. Add freight, customs duty, warehouse rent, working capital tied up in transit, foreign-exchange swing, quality-control overhead, and damaged-goods risk — and the so-called low-cost line item evaporates.
Post-2020 supply-chain shocks made this worse. Container rates spiked five-fold. Suez routing went unstable. Anti-dumping investigations landed without warning. A supply chain dependent on long-distance imports is exposure to variables outside your control.

The MGS Answer: Great Silver Pack Technology, Balıkesir Manufacturing
MGS Maripak Great Silver Ambalaj is Turkey's domestic manufacturer of 5-layer co-extruded POF shrink film. Our technology partner Great Silver Pack — one of the world's largest polyolefin shrink film producers, exporting to 60+ countries — runs the formulation that produces every roll at our Balıkesir Organized Industrial Zone facility.
This is not a generic local-manufacturing play. Three decades of polyolefin co-extrusion R&D from Great Silver Pack land directly on our 5-layer line. Great Silver Pack specialists run production. The film that ships from Balıkesir carries the same engineering recipe as the rolls trusted by distributors across 60+ countries — but with lead times in days, not months.
MGS also draws on our partner Maripak's machine expertise. Maripak has been Turkey's #1 shrink-packaging machine manufacturer since 1989, with 40+ country distribution and 12,000+ end-user customers. That relationship means MGS film is tested and tuned on real shrink-packaging machinery — under real production conditions — before it ever ships.

Total Cost of Ownership: Long-Haul Imports vs. Turkey-Manufactured
The real cost of shrink film supply is everything that compounds across the procurement chain — not the unit-price line on a quote. The table below sets a single container of long-distance imported POF film against MGS Turkey-manufactured film on a TCO basis. The hidden costs of importing become visible.
| Cost Line | Long-Haul Imports | MGS Turkey-Manufactured |
|---|---|---|
| Unit Price | Low (but misleading on its own) | Competitive ex-works pricing |
| Freight | High per-container ocean freight | Domestic road freight — low cost |
| Customs Duty | 3-4% duty + import VAT | Zero customs duty (Turkey domestic) |
| Lead Time | 60-90 days (long-haul), 30-45 days (regional) | Same-month delivery |
| Warehouse / Storage | 3-4 month stock buffer required | Order on demand; minimal stock |
| Working Capital | Letter of credit + freight + 3-month wait | Monthly order cadence; capital free |
| Currency Risk | Foreign-currency drift between order and arrival | Turkish Lira (TRY) invoicing — no FX exposure |
| Quality Control | Long-transit degradation risk; remote inspection | Qualified-partner facility tour program |
| Issue Resolution | Cross-border communication; intermediary-routed | Direct factory relationship; named contacts |
| Minimum Order | Container-scale MOQ enforced | Flexible order quantities |
The Question to Ask
How much of your working capital is currently sitting in a container at sea?
The real cost of importing is not the unit price. Three months of capital in transit, goods waiting in customs, cash parked in a warehouse — domestic supply removes all three.
Great Silver Pack R&D + Balıkesir Manufacturing: No Quality Trade-Off
"Locally manufactured" usually raises a quality concern. With MGS it does not. MGS is not a generic local producer — it is a technology-transfer project built on a partnership with Great Silver Pack, one of the world's largest POF shrink film manufacturers.
Great Silver Pack has been operating ten fully automatic 5-layer co-extrusion lines since 1993, with annual capacity of more than 18,000 tons and exports to 60+ countries. Certifications include FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, SGS, and ISO 9001. The formulation, extruder configuration, and quality-control protocols at our Balıkesir facility were transferred directly from Great Silver Pack.
Inside Balıkesir, our 5-layer co-extrusion lines run that same formulation, supervised by Great Silver Pack production specialists. The result is film engineered to the same standard as the rolls that ship globally — but customs-free, fast, and invoiced in Turkish Lira. Review the full technical specifications.

Supply-Chain Resilience: Engineer Out the Import Risks
After 2020, the cost of supply-chain fragility became impossible to ignore. Container rates ran up five-fold. The Suez Canal blocked. Major ports shut for weeks at a time. Every sector that ran on long-distance imports took the hit — shrink film distributors included.
The risk register kept growing. Anti-dumping investigations on imported polyolefin film. Heightened security around Red Sea shipping lanes pushing freight rates back up. Customs procedures changing inside review windows. Every one of these injects unforecastable cost into a long-haul-dependent supply chain.
Domestic supply through MGS removes the whole register. From Balıkesir to anywhere in Turkey — customs-free, on domestic logistics, with predictable transit days. Take the variables you cannot control out of the supply chain entirely.
Long-Haul Import Supply Risks
- Container ocean-freight rate volatility
- Suez / Red Sea routing disruptions
- Anti-dumping duty investigations
- Customs procedure changes mid-cycle
- Port congestion and dwell-time spikes
- In-transit film degradation on long voyages
- Foreign-exchange swings between order and arrival
MGS Domestic-Supply Advantages
- Zero customs duty — Turkey-domestic supply
- Domestic road freight — predictable cost
- Turkish Lira invoicing — no FX exposure
- Same-month delivery — off-the-shelf availability
- Flexible order quantities — no MOQ pressure
- Qualified-partner facility tours by invitation
- Direct factory contact — fast issue resolution
Cash Flow Impact: Leaner Operations, Working Capital Freed Up
The import model forces distributors into high stock cover. Place a container order, pay up-front, wait three to four months, clear customs, move it into a warehouse. From the moment cash leaves your account to the moment finished product invoices a customer, working capital sits idle.
Same-month delivery from MGS breaks that cycle. Order what you actually need; receive it the same month. The mandatory three-to-four-month stock buffer disappears. Warehouse cost drops. Capital that used to live in containers and pallets goes back into your business.
Turkish Lira invoicing makes budget planning predictable and removes foreign-exchange exposure. Flexible order quantities make just-in-time inventory practical. Moving from long-haul imports to domestic supply is not a supplier swap — it is an operational upgrade.

Sustainable Manufacturing: Zero Production Waste, No Harmful Gas
Every piece of waste that comes off our production line — edge trim, start-up scrap, off-spec material — is recycled in-plant, converted back to feedstock, and fed to the line again. No production waste leaves the Balıkesir facility for landfill.
POF (Polyolefin) shrink film contains no chlorine. That single chemistry difference means processing, shrinking, and end-of-life disposal produce no hydrochloric acid (HCl), dioxins, or furans. Unlike PVC — which is safe for food contact unless heated or welded — POF stays inert across the standard 130-180°C shrink-tunnel range. No harmful gas, no odor, no residue on the line.
Sustainability is built into how MGS manufactures. Visit our sustainability page for the full environmental comparison and chemistry detail.
Domestic Manufacturing — Frequently Asked Questions
Is locally manufactured POF film the same quality as imported film?
MGS runs the 5-layer co-extrusion formulation developed by our technology partner Great Silver Pack. Three decades of Great Silver Pack R&D, run on our Balıkesir line by Great Silver Pack production specialists. The result: Great Silver Pack engineering quality with the speed and flexibility of domestic supply.
Where does the actual cost advantage versus imported film come from?
Unit price alone is not the comparison. On the import side, ocean freight, customs duty, warehouse cost, three to four months of capital in transit, and currency drift all stack onto the unit price. With MGS there is no customs process, minimal warehouse carrying cost, and same-month delivery keeps your working capital free. The honest comparison runs on total cost of ownership, not on the unit-price line.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Long-haul imports force container-scale minimums. MGS works on flexible order quantities — order what you actually need and skip the carrying cost. For details that fit your operation, please contact our sales team.
What is the typical lead time?
MGS delivers same-month from our Balıkesir facility to anywhere in Turkey. Where long-distance imports run 60-90 days port-to-door, the MGS order-to-delivery cycle closes inside the same calendar month — lead times in days, not months.
Is invoicing in Turkish Lira?
Yes. Domestic Turkey sales are invoiced in Turkish Lira, which removes the foreign-exchange exposure that imported supply forces onto every order. You can plan budget independent of currency drift. Commercial terms for cross-border orders are negotiated per distributor agreement.
Which film thicknesses and formats does MGS produce?
MGS produces 5-layer co-extruded POF shrink film in 12, 15, 17, 19, 25, and 30 micron thicknesses. Available formats include jumbo roll, semi-jumbo, center-fold, center-fold plus, and single-wound. For fresh-produce and breathable-packaging applications, hot-perforated, macro-perforated, and micro-perforated options are also available.
